Walkabout Resources Forecasts Minor Impact on Tanzania Exports Due to Cyclone

Walkabout Resources, an ASX-listed company, has reported that its Lindi Jumbo graphite mine in Tanzania experienced minimal disruption due to the recent cyclone Hidaya. Despite heavy rains and a temporary power outage over the weekend, the mine's operations were largely unaffected.

Infrastructure Challenges and Response

The primary concern following the cyclone is the damage to the coastal road leading from the mine to the capital, Dar es Salaam. While alternative transportation routes are available, they will require significantly longer trucking distances, potentially impacting the export efficiency of graphite concentrate in the short term.

Company Priorities and Safety Measures

Andrew Cunningham, Managing Director and CEO of Walkabout, emphasized that the company's foremost priority remains the safety of its personnel. He confirmed, "The safety of our people is our highest priority and we are pleased to report that our workforce is safe with no reported injuries."

Outlook on Export Operations

Despite these logistical challenges, the company anticipates only minor disruptions to its export operations. "While there will be short-term impacts on the export of graphite concentrate from the Lindi Jumbo mine, our current assessment is that these are expected to be only minor," Cunningham added.

This resilient response highlights Walkabout Resources' preparedness and commitment to maintaining operations amid natural challenges, underscoring its strategic planning and crisis management capabilities.
